Job Title: Poultry Attendant (2)
Duty Station: Masulita, Wakiso District
Job Summary:
The Poultry Attendant will be responsible for the daily care of 1,000-layer birds, including feeding, cleaning, and checking on the health of the flock. They will assist in maintaining a clean and safe poultry environment, support routine vaccinations, and help with egg collection. The attendant will ensure that the birds are well cared for, biosecurity measures are followed, and egg production is consistent.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Feed birds daily following the feeding schedule (Layer Starter & Grower feeds).
- Clean feeders, drinkers, and the poultry unit to maintain strict hygiene and reduce disease risk.
- Collect, sort, and safely store eggs for daily dispatch and recording.
- Monitor bird health, report unusual behavior, and assist in administering vaccinations and deworming.
- Maintain updated records of mortalities, feed consumption, and egg production.
- Enforce biosecurity protocols including use of footbaths, PPE, and restricted access.
- Assist in disinfection procedures, litter replacement, and rodent control.
- Help during loading/unloading of feed, vaccines, and birds.
- Cooperate with other farm staff in general poultry house maintenance and improvement.
- Participate in trainings, on-farm demonstrations, and internal monitoring.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) or equivalent.
- Formal training in animal husbandry or poultry management is an added advantage.
Experience
- 1–2 years’ experience working on a poultry farm (commercial layers preferred).
Technical skills required
- Physically fit and capable of handling long hours of farm work under hot conditions.
- Able to work in rural or peri-urban settings with minimal supervision.
- Basic knowledge of poultry diseases and local feed types.
- Ability to read and write basic farm records (in English or Luganda).
